Making improvements to staff, membership experience, agronomic practices, and beyond can always be done. This is possible on a large scale or in smaller increments.
Professional development
As a Turf grass professional I am continuing to learn and grow in the golf industry. It is also my goal to give everything that I have learned to the next generation as well. Continuing education through seminars, site visits, and other resources are keys to success wherever the golf industry takes me.
Promote sustainability
The promotion of sustainability starts with a Best Management Practices plan or BMP. The plan includes but not limited to fertilizer, chemical, and water management. Promoting natural wildlife and habitat is important as well.
Communication
Communication with staff is important to complete tasks effectively. It is also important to communicate with other departments, any general management, and membership/customers on golf course practices. This can include events, projects, and daily operations.
Safety is no accident
A safe work environment is crucial to staff as well as customers. This is a top priority in any situation. Regularly scheduled safety meetings should be held for all staff as well as any personal protective equipment required be inventoried at all times.
Kindness, Patience, and Respect
These three values go hand in hand with building and having a great team. Membership and customers will have the same values given to them.
Work-life balance
Maintaining a golf course takes time and skill. There should be time outside of work as well. Constantly working will burnout anyone over time and is not a healthy way to continue a career. Taking time off and recovering when possible is important.
